The North Lewis War Memorials Committee has received two new awards from the Community Investment Fund to support the continued care and refurbishment of the war memorials in Cross and Borve.
A Maintenance Fund award of £770 has been approved to support grass-cutting and general upkeep at both memorial sites between April and October. The funding follows challenges in replacing a long-standing volunteer due to ill health and will help ensure the memorial gardens remain tidy, peaceful, and respectful spaces for reflection within the community.

In addition, a Small Grant award of £900 has been secured for the third and final phase of refurbishment works at the memorials. This stage will focus on restoring and renewing the lettering on both the Cross and Borve memorials, alongside the purchase of large plant pots to further enhance the surroundings for visitors and local residents alike.
Since 2022, the North Lewis War Memorials Committee has worked to conserve and protect these important landmarks for future generations. The memorials continue to hold a central place within the community, particularly during annual Remembrance Services where local
schools, organisations, and residents gather to honour
those who lost their lives in service.
These latest projects will help ensure the sacrifice and memory of the war dead continue to be recognised and remembered across North Lewis for many years to come.
