Community Investment Fund Supports Lifesaving Equipment for Ness & Shader First Responders

Ness & Shader First Responders has received a £1,500 grant from Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn’s Community Investment Fund to strengthen emergency response provision across the Galson Estate.

Working closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service, the group’s dedicated volunteers are often among the first to arrive at an emergency. They provide vital care and reassurance while an ambulance is on its way, with their rapid response proving particularly important in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

The funding was initially awarded to help increase the number of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) available to the responder team. Since submitting its application, the group has received an AED from the Scottish Ambulance Service. The Community Investment Fund grant will therefore support the purchase of an additional AED and a fully equipped first responder and first-aid bag.

This equipment will be used during emergency call-outs and at community events, helping volunteers provide immediate assistance when it is needed most.

With responders based across a wide geographical area, having more lifesaving equipment available throughout the team could make a crucial difference. The investment will also support the group’s growing number of volunteers and improve emergency preparedness across the estate.
