SKIGERSTA / SGIOGARSTAIGH
Skigersta (Gaelic: Sgiogarstaigh) is a village on the east side of Ness. It borders the village of Adabrock to the north and the moor starts to the south with sheilings in Cuishader.
Skigersta has a small quay, originally built in 1901. In the 19th century, Skigersta was a location for fish curing and the ruins of the bothies are still visible, as well as a man-made channel in the shoreline which allowed the boats easier access. The quay is now used mainly by sea anglers.
A boat from Skigersta was lost in each of the drownings in Ness in 1836, 1851 and 1862.
There was a school in Skigersta from 1892-1965. It was forced to close as the school roll was barely staying in double figures.

’S ann air taobh sear Nis a tha Sgiogarstaigh. Tha e ann an crìch ri Adabroc san tuath agus gu deas air a’ bhaile, tha a’ mhòinteach a’ tòiseachadh is gheibhear àirighean ann an Cuisiadar.
Tha cidhe beag aig Sgiogarstaigh, a chaidh a thogail an toiseach ann an 1901. San 19mh linn, bha Sgiogarstaigh air a chleachdadh airson ciùradh èisg agus tha tobhtaichean nan taighean-ciùraidh èisg lèirsinneach fhathast, cho math ri caol daonna-dhèante air a’ chòrsa a bha a’ ciallachadh gun d’ fhuair na bàtaichean cothrom nas fhèarr air a’ chidhe. An-diugh, ’s e iasgairean-slaite a bhios a’ cleachdadh a’ chidhe as trice.
Chailleadh bàta bho Sgiogarstaigh ann an gach bàthadh Nis, ann an 1836, 1851 agus 1862.
Bha sgoil ann an Sgiogarstaigh eadar 1892 is 1965. Dh’fheumadh e dùnadh air sgàth ’s gun robh an t-àireamh de sgoilearan cho ìseal.
Tha oifis a’ phuist air rathad Chrois Sgiogarstaigh, ach chan eil seo air a ghabhail a-steach dhan oighreachd.
