FIVEPENNY NESS / NA CÒIG PEIGHINNEAN

The name Fivepenny comes from the rent paid on the crofts - five pennies. Fivepenny is next to Eoropie in Ness. It is known as Na Còig Peighinnean locally but Còig Peighinnean Nis to distinguish it from Fivepenny Borve.

Ness Football Club, established in 1933, plays on Fivepenny Machair. They have a ground with a capacity of around 1000 and play in the Lewis and Harris Football League.

Ness F. C. Social Club is located next to the pitch.

Tha an t-ainm Còig Peighinnean a’ tighinn on mhàl a bhiodh air a phàigheadh air na croitean. Tha am baile ri taobh Eòrapaidh ann an Nis. Aithnichear e mar Na Còig Peighinnean gu h-ionadail ach Còig Peighinnean Nis gus eadar-sgarachadh a dhèanamh bho Chòig Peighinnean Bhuirgh.

Bidh Sgioba Bàll-coise Nis, a chuireadh air chois ann an 1933, a’ cluich air machair Chòig Peighinnean. Tha ‘stand’ aca a ghabhas mu 1000 duine agus bidh iad a’ cluich ann an Lìog Leòdhas agus na Hearadh.

Tha Club Sòisealta Nis ri taobh an raoin-cluiche.
