fios,In my last column I mentioned that we are working in partnership with Tighean Innse Gall (TIG) and Urras Oighreachd Chàrlabhaigh to deliver a project to reduce householder’s carbon emissions, which in turn will help reduce energy bills and tackle fuel poverty. The project is now launched and the project team are accepting referrals and making appointments for visits. In this first phase of the project we will be prioritising homes with someone aged 75+ in the household. Last week we attended the Community Land Scotland’s annual conference which was entitled ‘Sharing the Knowledge’. The conference was held at Sabhal Mor Ostaig in Skye and the keynote speaker was Andrew Thin, Chair of the Scottish Land Commission. UOG played an active role in the conference, leading a panel discussion on “Community Engagement and Succession”. UOG also formed part of a panel, for a workshop on community engagement and presented our strategic plan.

We are very much looking forward to the community celebration event which will take place on Friday 9th June and also the Birds of Prey talk which will be on 13th June in the UOG Business Centre. We will soon issue a series of dates for the Outdoor Sessions for children, which will take place over the holidays.

I will be attending a meeting of the Lewis and Harris Deer Management group this week and hope to find out more about the group and their plans for the year ahead. I hope to be in a position to report back on this in my next column for Fios.
