Project Officer. Magaidh Mackinnon-Finlayson (Adabrock) held this post for one year between July 2008 and 2009. Below she gives an account of her activities during this period.

My one year contract as Project Officer is now complete having worked extensively on the proposed Business Centre, to assist the Building sub- group Directors, Donald A MacKay, James MacLeod, and chair of the sub-group Donald S MacLeod, and Directors Norman Thomson, Carola Bell, and Agnes Rennie working on the Business Plan which were part of the Lottery application requirements.

The checklist requirements and deliverables for all funding applications are extensive and vigorous and there were many challenges to meet to try and ensure that the requirements of potential funders and stakeholder’s could be met. Our Case Officer, Neil Gerrard from the Land Unit at HIE and our Technical Advisor for the building Lorna Wallace from CEIS have been invaluable.

The total Lottery application is £775,000. The Lottery submission includes capital funding of £238,000 towards a projected cost of £510,000 for the proposed Business Centre as well as revenue funding for a full time Commercial Development Manager, and a full time Renewables Development Officer. The submission includes £325,000 capital funding towards the proposed Wind Energy Project.

Match funding applications for the balance of funding for the proposed Business Centre have been submitted to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Leader, as well as other public funding bodies.
