The Urras currently employs nine people on a various contracts, either full/part time.


Lisa Maclean

Commercial Development Manager F/T

Lisa Maclean took up post as Commercial Development Manager in November 2010. The role has overall responsibility for all Urras affairs as well as that of the subsidiary companies. Lisa worked across the Highlands and Islands for several years as a self-employed business consultant and as a qualified business coach for the service industry. Lisa has worked in management positions in both private and public sector and more recently was employed as a Project Manager with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Lisa, originally from Northern Ireland, moved to Edinburgh to study a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. but after several years living and working in Edinburgh, Lisa and her husband (who was born and raised in the Outer Hebrides) decide to move “home” and they are now very settled in the Back area of the island, with their two young sons.


Neil Mackinnon

Renewables Development Officer F/T

Neil Mackinnon joined the Urras staff team in October 2011. Neil was brought up in Harris and Uig. He is a Land Economics graduate from Paisley College and worked initially as a valuation surveyor in the Highlands. He has  spent most of his career at Highlands and Islands Enterprise in Stornoway, gaining experience in project management. Neil's role at HIE gave him the opportunity to be instrumental in securing renewable energy manufacturing activity at Arnish Point. He has most recently been employed in Fife Council’s Property Services team and has also runs his own project management consultancy business, Siar Management. He is a Chartered Surveyor and Certified Project Manager.


Joanne Matheson

Administrative Officer P/T

Joanne Matheson works on a part-time basis as Administrator Officer for the Urras. She takes care of book-keeping for the charity and the subsidiary companies. Joanne has recenlty migrated all Urras records to SAGE. Joanne has been employed by the Urras since July 2007 and lives in Eoropie with her husband and young family. She is a fluent Gaelic speaker.


Amy Kapherr-Diament

Local Development Officer P/T

Amy was originally on a 12 month graduate placement with the Urras as part of HIE's ScotGrad Graduate Placement Programme but was successfully recruited as a part time Local Development Officer in December 2014 under HIE's CAM programme. Amy works with the Urras and a wide number of other organisations within the estate to help them to develop their projects. Amy has a degree in Sustainable Forestry Management from the University of the Higlands and Islands.


Mairi Graham

Crofting Administrative Officer 

Mairi works on a jobshare arrangement with Christine and they work together to take care of all the crofting administration. Mairi also works on supporting UOG projects and the administration involved in delivery; she works 4 days per week from Tuesday to Friday.  Mairi holds a first class honours degree in International Travel and Tourism Business and is a fluent Gaelic speaker. She lives on the Galson Estate with her husband.


Christine Murray

Crofting Administrative Officer - Jobshare

Christine works with Marie on a jobshare arrangement taking care of the crofting administration. Christine is very experienced and previously worked at Lews Castle College UHI before taking a career break to bring up her son.  She is a fluent Gaelic speaker and lives in Ness with her husband and young son.


Fiona Rennie

Publicity and Promotions Officer

Fiona is currently on a 9 month graduate placement with UOG as part of HIE's ScotGrad Graduate Placement Programme. She holds first class honours degree in Photography from Edinburgh Napier University. Fiona is a fluent Gaelic speaker and lives with her family on the estate.
