24th Jan: UHI Evening talk - Prof. Frank Rennie. An evennig talk by Professor Frank Renniy of UHI on "Galson: The Evolution of a Crofting Towniship.

 

 

February Events:

 

23rd Feb: Fàs - 'Managing Projects' workshop - Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn has launched a new initiative called Fàs as part of its ten year anniversary programme. Fàs kicks off with a series of workshops and supporting advice, designed to assist businesses and organisations to develop and prosper.

 

28th Feb: UHI Evening talk - Dr. Edward Graham -  An evening talk in partnership with University of the Highlands and Islands. Dr Edward Graham will give a talk about " Weather Systems and the Western Isles"

23rd March: Cookery Demo & Tasting - Moor & Machair - Local chef, Paul Moorby, will prepare a meal using locally sourced rabbit and venison. Limited spaces available for this free event.

28th March: UHI Evening talk - Dr. Mary Macleod- Dr. Mary Macleod is an Archaeologist from the University of the Highlands and Islands and will give a talk about " Vikings in the Isle of Lewis"

 

 

April Events:

 

4th April: Volunteer Information session and SIGN UP - Befriending - One of our key objectiveds for our 10 year strategic planning is to tackle social isolation in our community. This volantary project provides training and support for future Befrienders to be matched to Befriendees in the community

 

21st-22nd April: Drystone Walling Course - Drystone walling skills run in partnership with Scottish Crofting Federation.

 

25th April: UHI Evening talk - Catriona Murray. Catriona from the University of the Highlands and Islands and will give a talk about " The Gaelic community and the Otherworld: Folklore and customs." In this talk Catriona will explore the connections between the Gaelic communities and the supernatural.

 

 

 

May Events:

 

20th May - Harris Tweed cuff making workshop -Netty Sopata from Diggory Brown. This will be a hands on workshop with a local kiltmaker and tweed-worker where you will be able to design and create your own harris tweed wrist cuff to take home.
